Cleanroom Fan Filter Unit (FFU) with HEPA
Biogreen manufactures fan filter units for cleanrooms, controlled environments and process equipment requiring localized HEPA or ULPA filtration. Our cleanroom FFU configurations can be supplied with AC or energy-efficient EC motors, adjustable airflow, multiple housing materials and room-side replaceable filter designs.
Standard and custom sizes are available for modular cleanrooms, pharmaceutical facilities, electronics manufacturing, laboratories and other controlled environments.

What Is a Fan Filter Unit and How Does It Work?
A fan filter unit combines a powered fan with a high-efficiency final filter in one ceiling-mounted or equipment-integrated assembly.
Air is drawn into the FFU by the fan, pushed through an H13/H14 HEPA or ULPA filter, and supplied into the controlled space as filtered air. Because each unit has its own fan, multiple FFUs can be distributed across a cleanroom ceiling and adjusted according to the required airflow pattern and clean zone layout.
In a complete cleanroom HVAC design, FFUs normally work together with make-up air, return-air paths, room pressure control and environmental conditioning rather than operating as a standalone ventilation system.
System Note
An FFU supplies filtered airflow. Room temperature, humidity and pressure relationships depend on the complete HVAC and air-balance design.
Inside a Cleanroom FFU

01 — Centrifugal Fan
Moves air through the filter while maintaining stable airflow.
02 — EC or AC Motor
Motor configuration can be selected according to control and energy requirements.
03 — Pre-filter
Helps reduce larger particulate loading before air reaches the final filter.
04 — HEPA / ULPA Filter
Available according to project filtration and cleanliness requirements.
05 — FFU Housing
Powder-coated steel, galvanized steel or stainless-steel options can be configured.
06 — Control Interface
Manual speed control or centralized communication options can be configured depending on the system.
Component selection should be confirmed against the required airflow, filter resistance, installation method and maintenance strategy.

HEPA and ULPA Filter Options
Filter selection should be based on the required cleanliness level, process risk, airflow resistance and cleanroom qualification strategy rather than efficiency percentage alone.
Biogreen FFUs can be configured with HEPA or ULPA final filters according to project requirements.
H13 HEPA
Suitable for many high-efficiency clean-air applications where the project specification calls for H13 filtration.
H14 HEPA
Frequently specified for higher-control cleanroom applications where the project requires H14 final filtration.
ULPA
Available where more demanding particle-control requirements justify the additional filter resistance and system design considerations.
Final filter grade, test method, seal type and replacement method should be confirmed in the approved project specification.

EC FFU for Adjustable and Efficient Cleanroom Airflow
An EC FFU uses an electronically commutated motor rather than a conventional fixed-control fan arrangement. The main advantage is not simply lower power consumption; it is the ability to match fan output more closely to actual airflow requirements.
In cleanrooms containing dozens or hundreds of FFUs, centralized speed control can help engineers balance airflow, compensate for filter loading and adapt operating conditions without manually adjusting every unit.
Variable Airflow
Adapt fan output to system requirements.
System Control
Optional centralized communication can be configured for multi-FFU installations.
Airflow Balancing
Supports adjustment across larger FFU ceiling arrays.
Energy Management
Helps avoid unnecessarily operating every unit at maximum output when the system design allows lower fan demand.

Advantages and Limitations of Cleanroom FFU Systems
Advantages
ADVANTAGE — Modular Airflow
FFUs can be distributed according to clean-zone and ceiling-layout requirements.
ADVANTAGE — Flexible Expansion
Additional ceiling positions can be considered during future cleanroom modifications when the original system design allows it.
ADVANTAGE — Independent Fan Control
Individual or grouped airflow adjustment is possible depending on the selected control system.
ADVANTAGE — Simplified Air Distribution

Design Considerations / Limitations
LIMITATION — More Electrical Points
Large FFU arrays require coordinated power distribution and controls.
LIMITATION — Maintenance Quantity
More FFUs mean more motors, filters and control components to monitor over the facility lifecycle.
LIMITATION — Ceiling Access
Standard constructions may require plenum-side access for certain maintenance activities.
LIMITATION — Not a Complete HVAC System
FFUs do not independently control temperature, humidity, outdoor air or room pressure.
